Nyssa’s Running Story:

Running has been my constant companion through life's many changes. It started simply enough - a way to stay active with my friends in high school via the JV cross country team. While I wasn't breaking any records, I was fortunate to have a coach who taught me the foundations of becoming a strong runner. Those early lessons sparked what would become a lifelong passion.

Through college, running was casual but it was always there - sometimes just a few miles to clear my head between studying. Then during my first year of PT school a good friend convinced me to sign up for a half marathon. At that point, I had never run further than 5 miles, but something about the challenge called to me. Following a structured training plan showed me the power of progressive improvement, and watching my weekly progress unfold was incredibly rewarding. I had severe illness for midway through my training, but was able to get back on track and make it to the start line anyway. Race day wasn't just about finishing - it was about the entire journey to get there.

As my running evolved, so did my curiosity about the science behind training. In 2018, I completed my first marathon, finishing in 4:59. That experience humbled me and taught me how to preserve. It also taught me that I had a lot to learn if I wanted to ‘master’ running as it was an extremely difficult day for me. Through continued learning, practical application, and consistency I've since improved my marathon time to 3:49. But most importantly, I’ve been able to push myself to new limits while staying healthy.

Like many of you, I understand the challenge of fitting training around work and life commitments. My coaching approach has grown naturally from my combined experience as a physical therapist, runner, and lifelong learner. What started as helping friends and family has evolved into a passion for guiding others toward their running goals. I truly believe that effective coaching is about more than just writing training plans - it's about understanding each runner's unique situation and creating sustainable approaches that fit real life. So whether you're working toward your first 5K or chasing a marathon PR, I'm here to help you find your optimal balance of training, recovery, and life.

Together, we'll build not just your running strength, but also your confidence and understanding of what it takes to stay healthy while pursuing your goals. Coaching should be collaborative – this is not a pre-written formula but an evolving process to meet you where you are.
